Happy Birthday

Just wanted to say Happy Birthday to my little sister Tracey. She lives in Nanimo, BC. But she is in California right now with her hubby and two girls at Disney. So I am hoping she checks the blog. I have never not been able to call her on her Bday before and it's kind of weird. I sure wish you lived closer Tracey. Have a great one. Oh, and here's a picture of her from way back!

Not much going on!

I've been helping my sister this week. She just moved into her house in Coldbrook this weekend and her furniture came on Mon. At first when she bought the house, I was thinking it would be so nice to move to another house, everything is freshly painted. Now that I see how many boxes have to be unpacked and find places for all this stuff. I am re-thinking that it would be fun to move. I have to go back to work tomorrow for 5 days in a row. I hate working weekends. Connor has soccer tryouts this weekend and Sarah has photography for 4H. So that means juggling to get them where they should be while I am at work. I better get going because Annie is likely wondering where her free help is. Here is another picture from my garden last year.

What a day!

Don't you just love this weather. Yesterday, I dug in my flower beds and cut everything back. Hope I didn't kill anything but it all needed a good trim. I love how when you pull all the dead stuff away there is the new green growth underneath. Always amazes me. Today was 2 games of soccer. We won one and lost one. That put us at 2-1 so we don't get to play in the championship game tonight. Thank you God! There is a little social at the Kings Arm in Kentville for the hospital staff , should be a good time. Hope everyone is out enjoying the good weekend!

Perspective

Every once in a while, I need to put things in perspective. Yesterday, I was talking with a good friend, who in the last few weeks has had more happen in her life than someone should have happen ever. I did not have any great advise for her. I wish I did. All I could do was listen and feel for her. Why is it that a person can do everything right and be a great person and yet "shit" still happens to them? I guess what I am trying to say is that we should all "not sweat the small stuff" and take time to enjoy the big stuff. Because we never know what will happen tomorrow. Does any of this make sense? I just hope that knowing you have people who care about you helps in some small way.

Well, here it is Thurs and the week is flying buy as usual. Sarah is doing soso. She is quite sad especially at night. Last night I went to a soccer practice. The hospital is having a tournament this weekend and the Lab has a team. There are eight teams in total. So we thought we should have a practice. I have not played since before Xmas, because of Connor's hockey. So needless to say, this morning I am feeling the pain of being lazy all winter. Should be a fun weekend and hopefully the orthopedic doc on call does not get any business from all us wanna be athletes. My sister Annie and her family are officially moving into their house in Coldbrook this weekend. We are very excited about that. But I know it is mixed emotions for all of them. But they should just suck it up and be happy cause they will get to see me more often. (haha)

Monday night, was Connor's hockey banquet, that's why I missed book club. (which I hate missing) anyway, he received the Esso award for the most improved player on his team. Thus the photo. He was so excited about it as were we. Soccer tryouts start this weekend and the running starts again. I am on my way to New Minas to have my truck serviced. I have had it a year ant the darn thing has 42,000km on it already.!!!!! I'm thinking I could qualify for a chauffeurs licence. I am going to stop in at 2MF and I hope they do not have anything new because I will feel the need to buy if they do. Who am I kidding, of course I want to see new stuff. Later

Sad night in Harmony

The vets called me at work this afternoon to say Frosty had died. They think he had a stroke in his sleep???? How do they know? I can't beleive it. I knew Sarah would not want him left there so, they put him in a box and I brought him home and we buried him behind the shed before she got home. She was so upset to say the least. My heart broke for her. She decided she never wants a pet again. For right now that is the way it will be. Sometimes as a mother you can feel pretty helpless.

Frosty is sick

Sarah's cat, Frosty is very sick. We got Frosty for her two Xmas's ago. Someone found him outside nearly frozen and took him to the vets. they revived him and we adopted him. He was only about 8 weeks old. She loves him so much. I know he is just a cat, but they become a part of your home. Over the weekend I noticed he was being really quiet. On Sun he did not eat or drink and he slept way more then normal. She thought he was being super cuddly. I took him to the vets Mon morning and his temp was way up, his blood count was dangerously low. The amount of red cells should be around 33 and his was 9. They did more blood work and redid his leukemia and other tests. They think he had some kind of autoimmune thing that is attacking his blood. They are treating him with an IV and steroids. I called this morning and his blood count came up a little so they said that was encouraging but he is still not out of the woods. It broke my heart to have to tell her, she was so upset. I laid in bed with her last night as she cried herself to sleep and me crying along with her. I know I will never allow another pet in this house, I can't handle how heartbroken my kids are when something happens. I am posting from work so I will post a picture of Sarah and Frosty from home.

This kid tires me out!

Here, I thought with this being the first weekend without hockey, we would spend a quiet one at home. Wrong, today Connor and I spent most of the day at LE Shaw school for the Kings County 4H rally. He was competing to be the Kings Co. Junior 4h Host. He had to give a speech about himself and meet with the three judges alone and answer some questions about the 4H program and himself. There were six boys trying for junior host and he won. I do not know where this kid came from. He stands in front of a room of about 40 people and three judges and give his speech with no problem at all. Me, I would have done something not so good in my pants. The judges said they were impressed when he walk in the room for the interview and introduced himself and shook each of their hands. To have that much self confidence at 10 I think is a great thing. And he sure looks cute in a tie, don't you think.

Life after hockey.

Well, here I am starting life after hockey! Yahoo! All we have left is the banquet next week. Great season, but we need some down time before soccer starts. Connor's team lost in the gold medal game 3-2. It was such a great weekend of hockey. They played so well, but you know when you lose the ref's always suck, well they did this time too. What was up with the weather? Driving back to the hotel Sat night after the game was terrible. Jeff could not get to Hlfx for the championship game on Sun because of the roads. I video taped the game for him, I watched the goal we had that they waved off that would have tied the game and it was in the net!!!!! Thus "three blind zebras" as Connor puts it. Yesterday I spent trying to get caught up on all the laundry and housework. Easter morning in the hotel was different. Connor's coach did not want them eating a lot of chocolate in the morning before the game so the Easter bunny hid 20 loonies in our hotel room instead of eggs. The kids thought that was a great idea. All in all, SEDMA is a very expensive tournament. Three nights in a hotel, meals, gas, alcohol. We could have stayed at Annie's but part of it is being with the team and both Sarah and Connor had a great time. I am off to shoppers to print some photos. The picture of Sarah and the girls is from the tournament a few weeks ago. They are the cheerleaders (older sisters). The one of connor is Sun morning at Cole Harbour arena. (home of sidney Crosby) They were so excited that the dressing room had cubbies. You would have thought they were in an NHL dressing room. Later

Gone fot the weekend

Well we are off to SEDMHA in Hlfx for the weekend. Last weekend of hockey. Happy and sad at the same time. We should be back some time on Sun or earlier depending if we win or lose games. Have a great Easter weekend. Hope the bunny leaves lots of chocolate droppings for everyone.
